A Peak Season in Audit is characterized by a concentrated effort on year-end financial statement audits, where auditors work to meet client deadlines and regulatory requirements. This period involves enhanced collaboration among multidisciplinary teams, leveraging advanced tools and technologies to deliver high-quality audits and valuable insights for clients. EXPERTsuisse Audit Education

EY offers you the chance to become a Swiss Certified Public Accountant together with EXPERTsuisse. This education is recognized at the highest level 8 by the National Qualification Framework (NQR), which is carried out by the SBFI. Level 8 indicates that the profession of an auditor involves highly complex professional situations that must be managed with the corresponding competencies. The three-year study program and four years of professional practice enable you to acquire the highly complex competencies and obtain the nationally and internationally recognized title.

The education is for people who enjoy working with numbers and people in a dynamic, digital environment. The education is designed to be modern and modular, with current content taught by experienced practitioners. It also offers flexibility through online learning options. In addition, the diploma covers a comprehensive range of economically relevant areas, including audit, financial accounting, tax and legal frameworks, as well as an elective focus on non-financial information. This includes areas like compliance, fraud prevention, IT security, and sustainability. Upon completion, graduates have a high market value and are well-equipped for various career paths, from specializing in a particular field to taking on leadership roles or becoming key decision-makers in companies.

What is the usual work location for auditors at EY?

This can vary greatly. During the peak season, you'll generally be working at the client's site. You may occasionally work from home or from the EY office. The expectation is for the entire team to be working mainly from the same location. You'll always be part of a team, working under the supervision of a Senior Auditor.

How big is an Audit team?

Team size varies depending on the client. For example, for a mid-market client, teams typically range from 3 to 7 people.

What is the team and management structure like?

You will always work in a team and under the supervision of a Senior Auditor. The career path is typically: 2-3 years as an Assistant/Staff, 2-3 years as a Senior Auditor, then Manager, Senior Manager, and finally Director/Partner.

What kind of clients or mandates will I be assigned to?

This can vary. Client assignments are handled by a central planning team.
How does the Annual Working Time Model work?

Starting 1 October 2025, EY Switzerland has introduced an Annual Working Time Model. This Model provides flexibility for our employees to manage working time flexibly in a one year period instead of a week to week minimum or maximum number of hours. Employees have an annual target working time and can work more during busier periods and less during slower periods. We aim to provider greater flexibility in managing working hours and empower our audit teams to deliver exceptional service while maintaining a healthy work-life balance for our employees.

How many days can I work from home, and do I have to travel to client offices?

This depends on your client engagements and projects. You can expect to work from home anywhere from 0 to 3 days per week.

What is the workload like during peak season, and how are working hours managed?

Peak season can mean working long hours and sometimes in the evening. However, you can compensate for this overtime during the summer through the working model at EY.
How does EY support the Swiss CPA certification journey?

EY supports the Swiss CPA education by Expertsuisse by providing additional internal tailored training programs, mentorship, and access to study resources. We offer flexible work arrangements to accommodate study schedules and facilitate networking opportunities, while also providing time for studies and financial assistance for exam fees and materials. These initiatives create a supportive environment for candidates to successfully navigate the Education Journey.

What does the onboarding process look like, and what kind of training does EY provide?

You'll have a centralized onboarding program during your first few days, followed by additional in-office sessions. A buddy and a counselor will be assigned to you as a first point of contact. You will also receive centrally organized training based on your rank and experience, such as a new staff training.

Is there anything I need to prepare before I start?

No, you don't need to prepare anything. Just come as you are — you'll receive all the necessary onboardings and trainings.
