What is Mergers and Acquisitions?

The Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) team is experienced in middle-market advisory services, providing strategic and tactical advice to privately owned, publicly listed, and private equity clients at every stage of a business or asset sale or purchase.

 Our M&A team collaborates closely with clients to align on their strategic objectives for liquidity events, identify and engage potential buyers or acquisition targets, and conduct thorough market soundings and valuations. Key workflows across the transaction process can include developing marketing and deal materials, managing the due diligence process, and providing strategic insights to navigate the complexities of a transaction. 

 By leveraging deep industry expertise and an extensive global network, the M&A team helps clients maximise value, reduce risk, and helps to achieve optimal outcomes across every phase of the M&A lifecycle. From initial strategy to successful execution, our commitment is to deliver exceptional results tailored to our clients' unique goals.

What could you be doing?

  • Prepare industry research and market mapping to assist in identifying potential new clients or targets for private equity and corporate buyers 
  • Assist in creating proposals for potential clients
  • Be involved in all stages of the transaction process from deal origination through to completion, including the preparation of marketing materials, bidder research, valuation analysis, and due diligence preparation and coordination 
  • Assist in and learn to build and analyse financial models  
  • Contribute to engagement planning and assist with deliverables to meet the project timetable 
  • Build strong client relationships

What will you bring to the team?

  • Strong numeracy and analytical abilities, with exposure to identifying trends in financial and operational data
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to communicate messages clearly and concisely
  • Highly organised, with experience in managing multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously
  • A positive attitude, a strong curiosity to learn and a proactive desire to contribute to a high-performing team
  • Strategic thinking capabilities, with an experience or a desire to analyse complex issues and develop innovative solutions
  • Understanding of Excel, with the capability and willingness to learn and apply financial modelling skills

You career journey in Mergers and Acquisitions

As a graduate, you’ll be part of our 12-month graduate development program that has been developed for graduates in all service lines, and is focused on connection, learning and celebration.

The program will provide you with the opportunity to network with your peers from other service lines and geographies. Running in parallel to your technical learning, you will develop leadership skills to become a successful graduate, and as you grow as a transformative leader.

As a Mergers and Acquisitions graduate, you’ll:-

  • Participate in a comprehensive M&A training program covering the full deal lifecycle, featuring interactive sessions with team members across all levels
  • Gain practical case study experience, following a deal from inception to completion, providing exposure to key M&A workstreams
  • Receive hands-on involvement in live projects, with specific responsibilities assigned to facilitate practical learning
  • Participate in training in artificial intelligence (AI) powered tools to enhance workflow efficiency
  • Receive support for postgraduate education, including qualifications such as the CA or Applied Finance degrees

As a vacationer, after our company induction, you’ll start developing an understanding of how our Mergers and Acquisitions teams work and will be ready to work alongside teams on real client projects. You’ll meet other new vacationers from your office.

Your buddy and your counsellor will help you learn your way around the organisation, set your goals and plan your development while you’re here. You'll be well looked after with ongoing learning throughout the Vacationer Program with sessions facilitated by our Learning and Development team, Campus Recruitment team and service line specific training. The Vacationer Program is a great way to gain valuable audit experience, skills and networks to start building your career.

My work has allowed me to build meaningful relationships with clients. Working in middle market M&A means that each team member has direct exposure to founders and their key management, which has allowed me to foster strong relationships across multiple industries.
