Matt Dold

Matt Dold returned to New Zealand expecting to continue a career in finance. Instead, he discovered the role he wanted simply didn't exist. Early-stage technology companies needed strategic financial leadership long before they could justify employing a full-time CFO, leaving founders to navigate rapid growth, fundraising and complex decisions without the right support. Rather than accepting that gap, Matt built the business he believed the market was missing.

In 2015, he founded Oxygen Advisors, pioneering New Zealand's fractional CFO model for high-growth technology businesses. Drawing on experience at PwC and as a startup founder in London, Matt combined commercial finance with tax, payroll, R&D incentives and revenue operations, creating an advisory model designed specifically for ambitious founders. It was a different way of thinking about finance: less focused on compliance, more focused on helping businesses make better decisions.

Building that model required patience. Oxygen grew through long-term relationships rather than aggressive sales, earning the trust of founders navigating everything from capital raises to economic uncertainty. Today, the business supports more than 150 clients with a team of over 60 across New Zealand, Australia and the Philippines. Along the way, it has helped clients secure millions in investment and  grant funding, while initiatives such as New Zealand's first Founder Salary Survey and SaaS benchmarking report have strengthened the wider technology ecosystem.

As founders face a new generation of challenges, Matt is continuing to evolve the model he introduced a decade ago, combining experienced financial advice with AI-enabled tools that free businesses to spend less time processing information and more time acting on it.
