Guild & Spence Technologies

Micheal Pope

Self-taught and starting on the tools as a technician, Michael Pope began his journey by working on small projects, and then launched a two-person business in Hamilton focused on electrical solutions for aged care and healthcare. 15 years on, he now leads a nationwide technology company delivering some of Aotearoa’s most complex integrated systems.

Guild & Spence Technologies (G&S), combines smart infrastructure, nurse call systems, fall detection, and CCTV into digital platforms that support safer, more connected care environments. Their software and hardware offerings are tailored to meet the needs of providers like Bupa, Ryman, and Summerset, helping staff and residents communicate more efficiently while promoting wellbeing and independence. G&S now employs more than 100 staff and operates across five branches nationwide.

Beyond the infrastructure capabilities, Michael is shaping the future of healthcare delivery. G&S’s in-house R&D team is trialling new technologies to enable remote health monitoring in homes and aged care facilities. They’re also working with the Te Whatu Ora Design Consortia on solutions that support public sector transformation. G&S is known for investing in its people, where its bespoke technician and leadership development programmes are building capability in a sector with critical skills shortages.

Michael’s leadership has elevated G&S as a prolific ICT provider for aged care in New Zealand. His journey from being on the tools, to being a key voice in the boardroom reflects a deep belief in backing people, solving complex problems, and building technology that improves lives. Always looking for the next step, Michael led the company’s recent acquisition by Austco Healthcare and is continuing to enhance the lives of the thousands of village residents relying on G&S services.
