The EY organization and SAP collaborated to provide a first-of-its-kind user proficiency management solution at a large utility company in California.

The EY organization developed a user proficiency framework that helps companies define required proficiency levels, measure users against these targets and identify corrective actions for underperforming users. EY teams used the SAP User Experience Management (SAP UEM) application by Knoa to measure user performance in the project training environment, providing fast, accurate and real-time insights into user behavior. The software’s robust data collection and reporting capabilities enabled EY teams to identify the utility's employees who needed additional training or other remediation actions to reach target proficiency levels.

SAP UEM enables quantitative measurement of user proficiency, helping ensure employees perform at the required level from day one. In addition, with data and insights on process execution times, businesses are empowered to make agile decisions in redistributing essential resources where they are critically needed in post-go-live operations.

David Townshend - EY Global Energy SAP Leader, says:

“All companies understand that to get the most out of a new IT system they need their employees to be proficient users of the software. However, historically it has been a challenge to quantitatively assess user proficiency. The project shows how organizations can make most of their SAP investments by understanding how their employees are adopting the new system.

“In light of recent global events, it has become increasingly important for large organizations to enable their employees to deliver optimum performance in fully remote or hybrid work environments. The EY organization and the SAP UEM solution make it possible to objectively assess user performance, leading to improvements in training and performance within the production system.”
