EY: How do you think these various roles complement each other and inspire each other?
Linda: My MC role is developing my public speaking abilities and has enabled me to be confident when I deliver messages to clients and other platforms. My DiskiNine9 role has enabled me to take an interest in the development of the careers and personal lives of our trainees and mangers. It has driven me to take an active part in programs that drive such a mission such as the Siyakhula programme EY. This programme is a Diversity and Inclusiveness committee whose vision is to support and enable ACI professionals through mentorship, workshop and experiences.
The time I spend with the young people makes me understand the challenges they face and make me a lot relatable in a Professional sense. It also expands my perspective as I interact with diverse people who have various backgrounds. I can guide some of their thinking and share experiences.
The MC role boosts my confidence and sharpens me as a speaker. I can articulate myself a lot better in a professional sense. My professional role enables me to bring some sort of structure to my weekend roles and enables me to share experiences and learnings from my professional role. It also enables me to build and pass on networks and connections.
EY: How do they coalesce to make you a better professional or all-rounder, a better daughter, friend, community contributor?
Linda: The time I spend with the young people makes me understand the challenges they face and make me a lot relatable in a professional sense. It also expands my perspective as I interact with diverse people who have various backgrounds. I can guide some of their thinking and share experiences.
Advice you’d give your younger self: “Speak up young lady, prepare yourself for no answer, and you will be pleasantly surprised when it’s a ‘yes’.”
