With the purpose of making the immigration flow more efficient in the entry checkpoints across the country, the National Immigration Institute (INM for its acronym in Spanish) has launched a pilot program to grant travelers coming into the country by air, an electronic Multiple Immigration Form (FMM), which has traditionally been issued in physical form.
The FMM is the document to evidence legal stay in Mexico, in accordance with the approved stay.
Who will be impacted by this change?
Foreigners entering Mexico by air under the Visitor immigration category (tourists or business travelers), as well as foreigners coming into Mexico with a previously approved work visa.
What is the applicable process?
On arrival, immigration agents at the entry checkpoint will manually input personal details of the traveler into the immigration database and stamp the passport with the entry date. On this stamp the official will manually specify the purpose of the trip (tourism, business, residence process) and the approved stay.
Afterwards, the immigration agent will point out the URL to access to download the electronic FMM.
What airports are seeing this pilot program implemented?
This pilot is currently in place at the international airports in Cancun, Guadalajara, Mexico City and the Felipe Angeles international airport also serving Mexico City, with the possibility of it expanding to other locations.
