Wealth tax is expected to be introduced in Hungary from December 2026. As a result, individuals subject to the wealth tax are expected to meet their wealth tax filing and payment obligations by 31 August 2027.

EY professionals provide end-to-end support, from the interpretation of this new tax legislation and asset valuation through to wealth tax planning and tax return preparation. We help individuals, entrepreneurs and trust structures understand, assess and comply with emerging wealth tax obligations in Hungary.

How can we help?

Four pillars of wealth tax support:

Pillar 1 of tax support
Pillar 2 of tax support
Pillar 3 of tax support
Pillar 4 of tax support

Asset valuation & structuring support

Determining the value of reportable assets is often a key element of a wealth tax assessment. EY combines tax, valuation and industry expertise to support clients in identifying relevant assets, applying appropriate valuation methodologies and preparing supporting documentation.

Where appropriate opportunities are identified, we also provide strategic advisory support on asset restructuring to help optimize wealth holdings and manage future wealth tax exposure in a compliant manner.

Valuation work can be performed with the involvement of relevant valuation specialists, depending on the asset class and applicable statutory requirements.

Our approach - From fact finding and restructuring to compliance and filing

Our support begins with understanding the client’s circumstances, including residency status, ownership structures, relevant jurisdictions and the nature of the assets involved. We then analyse the applicable wealth tax legislation, including valuation requirements, exemptions, thresholds and filing obligations.

Where required, we assist with the valuation of relevant assets and assess the resulting wealth tax position based on the applicable rules. We also advise on asset holding and ownership restructuring opportunities that may help address wealth tax exposure and align the overall structure with the client’s objectives. Our services can also include support with the preparation of tax returns, calculations and related filing requirements.

The outcome is an optimized, tax audit-ready and documented assessment of the client’s wealth tax position, supported by valuation analyses, restructuring recommendations, and filing-ready calculations.

Tailored outputs based on client needs

Clients may require support at different stages of the wealth tax journey, from understanding applicable rules and assessing asset values to determining reporting obligations and preparing wealth tax returns. Depending on the scope of the engagement, EY can provide written wealth tax advice covering applicable rules, exemptions, valuation principles and recommended actions, together with structured information request packages designed to gather ownership information, asset categories, values and supporting evidence in a consistent and efficient manner.

Our services may also include valuation reports and assessments, consolidated wealth tax calculations, documented filing position memoranda, wealth and ownership structure redesign recommendations, and comprehensive return preparation support, including the preparation of supporting schedules, calculations and responses to follow-up authority enquiries where required.

Services can be delivered as targeted advisory support, stand-alone valuation engagements, restructuring and redesign projects, or an integrated end-to-end wealth tax solution tailored to the client's asset profile and reporting requirements.
