Federal Government Issues Administrative Measures on the Occasion of the Inauguration of the Fifa World Cup 2026

By Decree published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on June 9, 2026, the Federal Executive established various administrative measures related to the events for the inauguration of the FIFA World Cup 2026, which will take place on June 11, 2026, in Mexico City.

Implementation of telework schemes in the Federal Public Administration

The Decree instructs the agencies and entities of the Federal Public Administration based in Mexico City to implement, according to service needs, telework, remote work, or flexible work organization modalities for the public servants under their charge.

However, the measure does not apply to various activities considered essential, including, among others, those related to health services, civil protection, public security, national security, migration and customs control, strategic services and critical infrastructure, as well as activities linked to the organization and operation of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Call to the private sector

Likewise, the Decree urges the private and social sectors in Mexico City to implement telework, remote work, or flexible work organization modalities for their workers on June 11, 2026, regarding non-essential administrative activities, in accordance with articles 330-A and 330-G of the Federal Labor Law.

It is important to note that this call does not constitute a legal obligation for private employers, so the implementation of these measures remains subject to each company's determination according to their operational and business needs.

Considerations for employers

As a result, we recommend that companies operating in Mexico City timely evaluate possible operational and mobility impacts for that date, considering, among other aspects:

  • The feasibility of implementing temporary telework or hybrid work schemes for personnel whose functions allow it.
  • Possible disruptions derived from mobility and commuting times of workers.
  • The need to timely communicate any organizational measure adopted to ensure continuity of operations.
  • The review of internal policies related to teleworking and flexible work, in case of opting for temporary implementation.
