The President of Mexico announced that the National Minimum Wage Commission (CONASAMI) issued a resolution establishing an increase in the general minimum wage for 2026. This adjustment will benefit 8.5 million workers and will take effect on January 1, 2026.
New general minimum wage amounts
Rest of the country:
- $315.04 per day
- Total increase: 13%
- Monthly equivalent: $9,582.47
Northern Border Free Zone (ZLFN)
- $440.87 per day
- Total increase: 5%
- Monthly equivalent: $13,409.80
The annual minimum wage adjustment consists of two mechanisms:
- Independent Recovery Amount: Fixed amount in pesos whose objective is to gradually recover the purchasing power of the wage. By 2026, it will only apply to the rest of the country ($17.01 per day).
- Percentage increase: Percentage applied to the current wage.
- Rest of the country: 6.5%
- ZLFN: 5% (single component, as it does not incorporate Independent Recovery Amount)
The sum of these elements generates the total authorized increase for each geographical area.
The approved adjustment will allow the minimum wage to reach the equivalent value of two basic baskets.
Since 2018:
- In the Northern Border Free Zone, the minimum wage has grown by 204%.
- In the rest of the country, the cumulative growth has been 115%.
- The national average wage has increased by 27.5% in real terms.
