Sustainable Finance Program

Through EY Ripples, our Sustainable Finance Program creates important connections and conversations between governments, philanthropists, investors and non-profit organizations.

What is sustainable finance?

Sustainable finance means unlocking alternate forms of financing for social and environmental initiatives, with a focus on achieving outcomes.
 
Many impact organizations are limited to their donor base and unstable government funding, with little access to capital. Alternative methods of financing are helping to close this financing gap and create better outcomes for everyone.

How are we making an impact in the sustainable finance ecosystem?

Through the Sustainable Finance program, we’re acting as the intermediary or the advisor through EY Ripples by providing our knowledge and convening governments, investors and social purpose organizations to create better social outcomes.
 

What have we achieved so far?

Conservation Finance

We advised on developing outcome measurement and validation methodologies for Carolinian Canada Coalition and Ivey Business School’s Conservation Impact Bond (CIB). Following this work, we codeveloped a report on the advancement of conservation and reconciliation through outcomes-based finance.

We supported Earth Day Canada’s Demain la Forêt program to strengthen forest resilience and expand nature-based initiatives, enabling Earth Day Canada to access new markets, structure financing and scale its impact across Québec and Canada.
 

AI for Good program

Through EY Ripples, our AI for Good program aims to employ artificial intelligence to address pressing social challenges, enhance digital inclusion and foster innovation in communities.

How are we making an impact through AI for Good?

Through this program, we empower underserved populations with essential digital skills training, support impact entrepreneurs and drive sustainable social and economic development through innovative AI solutions.
 

What have we achieved so far?

AI Skills Passport

The EY Microsoft AI Skills Passport is a free, self-directed course available to youth ages 16+ that aims to foster connections to employment in the fast-growing AI landscape. More than 600 youth have registered for the course.

Workshop Series for NPO leaders

Currently in its pilot, this series is designed to empower NPOs to harness the potential of AI for greater mission impact. It involves: strategic AI knowledge development, personal coaching, and responsible and ethical AI, and leaves organizations with actionable outcomes.
 

Pro bono AI projects

We work with nonprofits and social enterprises that are building community-driven, sustainable AI solutions to help them scale their work and support organizations that are more advanced in their AI journeys increase their impact using AI. For example, EY volunteers recently supported the Canadian Centre for Nonprofit Digital Resilience (CCNDR) by conducting a competitive analysis and market research for their planned AI Impact Hub - now launched here.
