Swiss representative at EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year
Luc Burnier, founder of nu glass, was nominated for the international final of the EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year 2026 program. Founded in 2022 and based in Nyon (VD), nu glass is a deep-tech company that improves wireless connectivity in indoor spaces. The company emerged from research at the EPFL and has gone on to develop patented laser technology that makes glass permeable to mobile telecommunications frequencies. This allows signals to be transmitted without having to replace windows. The company is working with European rail operators to retrofit train windows and increase passenger connectivity. More than 25,000 windows have been treated so far. In 2024, the company expanded into North America, focusing on infrastructure and mobility partners. In addition to the transport sector, nu glass develops applications for buildings and public infrastructure aimed at reducing the need for energy-intensive telecommunications systems.
The independent panel of judges from Switzerland say: “We were impressed by Luc Burnier's drive, pioneering spirit and personal commitment. With nu glass, he stands for a Swiss innovation that redefines wireless connectivity in indoor spaces. The underlying technology has already proven its marketability with major customers and unlocking new opportunities in both the mobility and construction sectors. Particularly noteworthy is the way he inspires and closely involves his team and drives forward implementation with a great deal of personal commitment.
