How EY is helping with the World's To-Do List

The UN has 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development (SDG) – a plan adopted by all UN member states in 2015 to end poverty, conquer inequality and tackle the climate crisis by 2030. EY is delighted to support a major awareness campaign for the Global Goals.

The World’s To-Do List is a creative way to bring the Global Goals to life, spark debate and dialogue around collective action. It’s led by Project Everyone, a not-for-profit creative communications agency headed up by Love Actually writer, director and UN SDG advocate, Richard Curtis. The campaign is spearheaded by a group of the world’s biggest companies and brands, including EY, known as the Business Avengers.

London Climate Action Week (LCAW) is the annual event bringing together global climate professionals and communities across London and beyond to find practical solutions to climate change. To support the Global Goals campaign and communicate the crucial role cities play in accelerating the world’s transition to net zero, a giant World’s To-Do List sticky note will appear on EY’s London Bridge office during LCAW. From 21 June to 4 July, Goal 11: ‘Make cities sustainable’ will be installed on 1 More London Place.

“Creating a sustainable future requires all of us to be at the table - no one leader, business, country or city can succeed on their own. Progress on climate change requires action across borders and business functions as well as between governments, industries and communities. That is why being able to connect during London Climate Action Week is so important – it will provide a platform to collaborate and develop practical solutions to climate change that will ultimately drive a more sustainable, low-carbon future.” - Hywel Ball, EY UK Chair and UK&I Managing Partner

As well as supporting the campaign, EY is taking action to make its own business more sustainable:

  • In October 2021, the firm announced that it had achieved its goal of becoming carbon negative in its UK operations and globally, underscoring its commitment to the environment and to driving sustainability-led growth.
  • In 2020, EY also announced a 10-year zero-carbon Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), which supports the building of a new solar power station project in Norfolk. This will ensure that most of the electricity EY uses in the UK continues to be zero-carbon, while also generating a significant surplus of renewable energy that will be fed back into the grid.
  • EY has also signed up to a Green Pensions Charter to ensure that EY pensions are invested sustainably.

“The decarbonisation of cities will be a critical component in accelerating the world’s transition to net zero. As a renowned global city and financial centre, London has the ability and influence to lead the way and drive positive change. London Climate Action Week is a great example of the proactivity needed to bring people together, spur debate and offer practical solutions. By supporting the initiative, EY is joining climate professionals, other businesses, and communities across London, to help play our part in finding global solutions to climate change.” - Alison Kay, EY UK&I Managing Partner for Client Service
