Barbara Spiegel leads the Sustainability practice for EY Switzerland across Assurance, Consulting, Strategy & Transactions, Legal, and Tax. She coordinates EY’s sustainability go-to-market approach and ensures clients benefit from the full breadth of EY’s expertise.
She supports organizations in their sustainability transformations across multiple dimensions, including supply chain resilience, integration of sustainability KPIs into product development, ESG data strategies and IT systems, and embedding sustainability KPIs into performance management.
With over 20 years of business transformation experience, Barbara has specialized in sustainability strategy and ESG-led transformation since 2013. As Head of Sustainability at a multinational insurance group, she embedded ESG into operations and core offerings. Prior to EY, she advised global consumer goods companies on net zero strategies, using technologies like geospatial analysis to assess environmental footprints and climate risks, while upskilling senior executives and cross-functional teams on sustainability and business resilience.

Barbara believes strongly in profitable business within planetary boundaries. She helps companies look at today’s social and environmental challenges as opportunities for growth, for more sustainable and circular products and services, new business models, and competitive advantage in relation to flagship sustainability projects. She understands the impact and relevance of ESG risks and opportunities on different company departments from strategy, finance, to R&D, procurement, product development, and sales.
Besides corporate advisory, Barbara has led various multi-stakeholder initiatives aiming at tackling environmental and social challenges through collaboration, such as carbon accounting alignment in the cocoa industry (World Cocoa Foundation) or insurance pledge alignment via the Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI).
