Mike Grayton

Partner, Tax, Consumer and Health, Ernst & Young LLP; EY UK&I Grants, Credits & Incentives Lead

Curious learner. Team builder. Global incentives professional. Tech evangelist. Parent to aspiring Olympians.

As a Tax Partner in Consumer and Health, Mike is focussed on understanding the challenges our clients face and bringing together teams with varied sector experience to deliver compelling solutions.

He is also UK&I Grants, Credits and Incentives Lead, helping clients to understand and access the breadth of tax and non-tax incentives available to them to help fund innovation, transformation and growth. To do that, he has built a team of industry experienced scientists, technologists and incentive professionals to bring a holistic view in order to better support clients. This service extends from identification of potential projects, through to the submission and realisation of funds.

How Mike is building a better working world

Mike is passionate about increasing the number of young people recruited to his team, helping to create work experience and job opportunities whilst building careers focussed on learning, development and sector insight. Whether through the graduate programme or other opportunities, this offers career paths for many, in some cases transitioning from industry science and engineering roles to tax advisory. An example of this is the recruitment of graduates with a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) background – creating opportunities to showcase those skills as a consultant, whilst gaining industry tax and accounting qualifications.

Mike also works with clients to help them access the right support to accelerate their net zero transformation journeys. For example, by helping clients to access grant funding to invest in operational equipment that measurably reduces their environmental impact and enhances their business’s sustainability credentials.
