Piers Clinton-Tarestad

Partner, Technology Risk, Ernst & Young LLP

Passionate about building interconnected approaches to technology risks. Father of two.

Piers is a Partner in EY UK&I’s Technology Risk practice, with over 20 years’ experience in the field.

He started his career as a chartered accountant before shifting his focus to technology systems and associated processes. In doing so, he has led complex projects covering data analytics, cybersecurity, risk and internal audit, project management, and technology risk. He has been instrumental in delivering early thought leadership and engagement on emerging technology topics, such as artificial intelligence (AI) assurance. Currently, he is leading the EY approach to quantum technologies in the UK and Ireland.

Piers has a BSc and an MBA degree. A Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA), he has completed a significant range of technology qualifications, including Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). He has also served on several audit committees.

How Piers is building a better working world

"I have always been passionate about demystifying and managing the risks of ubiquitous technologies. This passion has included managing large-scale system changes and ensuring the protection of critical infrastructure against cyber attacks, as well as enabling data privacy and trusted AI.

I am a firm believer that diversity of thought and experience is essential to effectively manage emerging technology risk. This is especially true as these risks intersect with new areas, such as environmental, social and governance (ESG) priorities. To promote a diverse talent pipeline, Piers acts as an active coach for individuals within the firm — both through formal and informal programmes."
