    Technology in Finance Modelling

We work hand-in-hand with our Consulting practice to support our clients through their complex business and Finance transformation journeys. 

    You'll have opportunities to work on a range of projects across Financial Services, for example - the design, configuration and deployment of strategic solutions to enhance planning, forecasting and analytical capabilities across banks, insurance and asset management firms.

    What will you be doing?

    • Designing, developing and deploying financial models using multi-dimensional software systems (e.g. Oracle, Anaplan) 
    • Working with colleagues or counterparts in client organisations to understand the data requirements and associated calculation logic 
    • Translating data and calculation logic requirements into model designs
    • Developing models on software platforms including prototype builds, product releases, testing and business integration
    • Developing dashboards, visualisation and analytical solutions
    • Running client workshops, writing user guides and delivering training to clients 
    • Building EY modelling assets for new opportunities to sell into the market

      We operate an open access policy, meaning we don’t screen out applications on your academic performance alone. You will, however, need to be working towards an honours degree in a numerically-based subject like Maths, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Data Science or Computer Science, have a minimum of grade 4/C GCSE (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths, and three A-levels (with an A in A-level Maths)/Five Highers (or equivalent) to be eligible to apply. 

      Experience that would be beneficial includes knowledge of programming languages (such as VBA, SQL, Python, R etc.), experience of OLAP technologies (e.g. Oracle, Anaplan) and previous work experience across Financial Services and / or data analytics.

      Candidates will have strong interpersonal skills, with ability to flex style to build rapport with team members and clients. They will be able to interrogate and understand complex business data requirements to build an analytical models that will deliver the relevant insights. In addition, understanding of financial principals, strong attention to detail and a passion for delivering quality  products be important ingredients to be successful in the role.

    Business skills training

    You’ll have access to all the learning EY has to offer. This includes our EY Badges programme, virtual, live instructor-led classes, live classroom sessions, curated and snackable content and master classes. The range of content is vast and includes courses on analytics, emerging technology and IT, as well as marketing, leadership and personal wellbeing. You'll also have the opportunity to receive training from external providers (e.g. technology specialists) where more tailored learning is required.

    How’s it structured?

    When you join, you'll received a tailored induction training introducing you to the technology, tools and solutions we use to support our clients' Finance transformation journeys (e.g. Oracle, Anaplan). This will familiarise you with specific technologies and provide a foundation to develop your skills further. After induction, you'll join your team in Finance Modelling and jump straight into work on real client projects. 

    The graduate cycle lasts two years and will provide you with a variety of experiences and learning opportunities to support your career and personal development. On the job, we'll help you develop the skills to decipher how each client problem is different and to find innovative ways of solving them. You'll be part of a larger diverse community with a great opportunity to build your network, participate in a range of events across different topics and develop your leadership skills. 

    You'll have the opportunity to work across multiple disciplines within Finance Modelling. For example, you will be gaining first-hand experience from client delivery as well as developing new business propositions and building marketing material. You will have the chance to work across a range of existing and emerging technologies (e.g. Oracle, Anaplan, Cloud based solutions) and drive innovation across Financial Services. There may be opportunities for travel across the UK and internationally, as well as continuing to manage flexible working.

    Throughout your graduate cycle, you'll have access to training and development resources as well as support from colleagues within your team. There will be periodic review cycles to manage your career and learning experience. Since no two projects will be the same, we’ll provide coaching to prepare you for career journey. 

    By the time you finish the programme, you can expect to be well on your way to becoming a Senior Consultant in Finance Modelling, with the opportunity to build a specialism in your preferred area.

    What type of work will I be doing?

    As a graduate on the Finance Modelling programme, you may have the opportunity to work across different technology and consulting disciplines and the complete project lifecycle. This includes:
    • Technology Assessments

      Running assessments and 'proof of concepts' to support our clients reach the correct decisions, for exmaple, defining assessment criteria and proving technology capability on software platforms. 

    • Scoping and Design Workshops

      Agreeing and prioritising client requirements and designing the end-user product.

    • Data Design

      Understanding the data requirements and associated calculation logic and translating data and calculation requirements into model designs.

    • Model and Dashboard Design and Development

      Developing forecasting models on OLAP software platforms including prototype builds, managing product releases and developing dashboards, visualisation and analytical solutions.

    • Testing and Training

      Designing and executing user, system and integration testing, developing user guides and overseeing implementation of testing and training strategy to support go-live, driving knowledge transfer and support model for users.

    • Technology Innovation

      Building EY modelling assets for new opportunities to sell into the market.
