    Markets & Business Development

    Our UK Financial Services (UKFS) Markets team drives purposeful growth, positioning EY as the most client-centric, connected and trusted professional services firm. We do this by establishing strong market relationships, originating new business, driving sales and increasing our chance of winning.

    Our three Business Development teams (Banking & Capital Markets, Wealth & Asset Management and Insurance) drive their sector's go-to-market strategy. Each team develops client relationships and connects senior clients with EY people to solve their business challenges.

    Technology in Markets & Business Development

    You'll gain exposure to the complex issues facing our clients, and how technology can be used to address these. You'll also gain an understanding of the underlying technology (for example Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Cloud Transformation), and how this can be deployed, often in combination, to enable our clients' future success.

    What will you be doing?

    • You'll work with a wide range of clients from innovative market disruptors, to established household names
    • Analysing trends across the Financial Services sector
    • Organising client workshops 
    • Preparing Account leaders for client meetings
    • Listening to client problems and defining strategies and solutions
    • Developing and writing sale proposals

      If you’re in your penultimate year at university and your course includes a placement year, this programme is for you. We operate an open access policy, meaning we don’t screen out applications on your academic performance alone. You will however, need to be working towards an honours degree in any subject, and have a minimum of grade 4/C GCSE (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths and three A-levels/Five Highers (or equivalent) to be eligible to apply.

      We welcome applications from all academic backgrounds and are looking for individuals who will succeed at EY in the desired role and future qualifications, therefore throughout our recruitment process your academic performance will be considered against your online assessment scores to determine your suitability for an EY role. This allows us to give you the maximum credit for your achievements, assessing whether you have overachieved in light of your personal circumstances.

    Businesss skills training

    You’ll have access to all the learning EY has to offer. This includes our EY Badges programme, virtual, live instructor-led classes, live classroom sessions, curated and snackable content and master classes. The range of content is vast and includes courses on analytics, emerging technology and IT, as well as marketing, leadership and personal wellbeing.

    How’s it structured?

    Throughout your 11-month placement, you’ll become part of a world-class business development team, supporting activity throughout the sales cycle. You’ll conduct sector-wide market research, take part in initial client meetings, write proposals, and help our leaders pitch to clients.

    Following your induction, you'll join one of our 3 Sector focused business development teams where you will support senior relationship managers working with leading financial services clients.

    You'll attend training courses alongside our graduates and have access to a huge range of learning and development resources as well as a supportive team to lend a hand. Since no two projects will be the same, we’ll coach and mentor you in a way that will prepare you for anything. You'll also be part of a larger community of graduates and apprentices which is a great opportunity to build your network, participate in corporate sustainability events and develop your leadership skills.

    What type of work will I be doing?

    Your programme has been designed to provide you with the experiences, coaching and learning to succeed as an intern within our UKFS Markets team. Our Markets teamwork across all of our EY services so you will gain a wide perspective of the work EY delivers to its clients. You can expect:

    • To gain an insight into how our biggest clients operate and navigate industry challenges: from changing consumer demand and turbulent financial markets, to climate change and the need for cultural change.
    • To develop an understanding of EY’s capabilities, how the business operates internally, how engagements are won and how client relationships are managed.
    • Opportunities to work directly with EY’s senior leadership and the chance to attend valuable meetings with EY partners and senior client stakeholders.
    • A varied role supporting several different client ‘accounts’ on a wide range of exciting projects in a fast-paced and energetic environment.
    • Exposure to the capabilities and solutions from across all of EY, from People Advisory Services to business transformation.
