Corporate and Growth Strategy

Interns and graduates in the Corporate and Growth Strategy team will work on a mixture of corporate due diligence and strategy projects with private equity (PE) and corporate clients across a number of sectors:

  • Education
  • Energy Transition
  • Financial Services
  • Government & Infrastructure
  • Health Sciences & Wellness
  • Retail & Consumer Goods
  • Technology, Media & Telecom

These projects help our clients answer their most complex strategic questions by providing in-depth market, competitor, customer, and investment insights.

The Corporate and Growth Strategy team advise clients on a vast range of issues, such as core value proposition, competitive positioning, and growth strategy. Our employees enjoy unparalleled contact with influential and highly experienced professionals within the firm, as well as with senior management at clients’ organisations across a multitude of sectors.

A due diligence project is typically 3-6 weeks long, whilst corporate strategy projects can be several months in length. This offers a fast-paced and challenging environment to grow and is an excellent way to both explore a huge range of sectors and deep dive into strategies that drive client opportunities in a short amount of time.

  • Full-time associate consultant programme

The UK&I Strategy team are not hiring for full-time Associates this year.

If you are looking for a full-time role, please explore our other programmes available:

  • Summer Associate Consultant Programme

The Summer Associate Consultant internship programme is aimed at penultimate year students who are available for eight weeks through July and August 2024, looking to join full-time in 2025.

When joining this programme, you will join the UK&I Strategy team based in London Bridge. Here you will have the opportunity to work across our full range of sectors and be part of a supportive, inclusive team who will give you all the help you need to lay the foundations for a successful career.

The programme begins with a week of intense training to equip you with the skills and tools you will use throughout the summer. This is a great opportunity to meet with colleagues from across the firm and develop the initial skill set required to be effective in the role.

Once you complete training, you will put your learning into practise and begin working with teams on client projects, performing the same role as a graduate associate consultant. This will involve research, data analysis, building and using spreadsheet models, preparing client presentations, and attending team and client meetings.

A Summer Associate can expect to work on one or two cases across a range of industries, dealing with areas such as commercial due diligence, growth and market entry, and profit and operational improvement. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire real-life business experience, whilst acquiring valuable analytic, interpersonal and leadership skills.

The eight-week Summer Associate internship is an excellent opportunity to experience what it is like to work as a strategy consultant and the unique opportunities that EY-Parthenon Strategy offers. By the end of the internship, you will have a real understanding of whether this is the right choice for you, with many internships resulting in a full-time offer.

What will you be doing?

This will vary depending on the project and the specific needs of the client, however, here are a list of some activities you can expect to be involved in:

  • Identifying data sources, gathering, analysing, and interpreting data, and presenting your findings to team members or clients
  • Interviewing market experts, customers, and competitors of the client and synthesizing findings to make strategic recommendations
  • Building advanced market and business models and using those to generate forecasts to support with analysis
  • Brainstorming with the case team (3-7 members) to tackle complex challenges
  • Collaborating directly with Partners to sell new projects to clients

Remember you can only apply for one programme within a six-month period so do some research and choose the role right for you.

After registering, we'll be looking to learn all about you. It’s where you enter your personal details and experience. When filling out your details, please read the instructions carefully and provide all the details of your qualifications.

Finally – it sounds obvious – but don’t forget to proofread your answers before submitting them.

    • Make the most of your application

Our motto is “Smart. Nice. Driven”, and we’re looking for candidates who can demonstrate these attributes through their application. As a part of your application, you will be asked a few questions about your experiences and aptitudes. Here are a few questions to help guide you in presenting the full picture of your capabilities:

      • How have you done on your undergraduate or graduate course?
      • Where in your academic or extra curriculars have you engaged with problem solving?
      • What additional information can you provide us on your academic performance?
      • Have you won any academic prizes? Been part of a team which has solved a problem?

      • Do you speak any languages fluently?
      • Have you done a summer internship or a research project? Have you volunteered?
    • Stage 2: Numerical Reasoning Test

Once you have completed your application form, you will be asked to complete a numerical reasoning test. This test is timed, but not time-limited, which means you get a higher score for completing at speed with accuracy. For this reason, this test needs to be completed in one sitting. We estimate that it will take 20 minutes to complete.

Numerical reasoning is the ability to understand and work with numbers in a variety of forms, such as currency, percentages and ratios. It refers to both an individual’s mathematic ability and their ability to logically analyse numerical information.

This test uses hypothetical scenarios and data to provide context to the question. There are different types of questions — for some you have to pick one correct answer, others you have to rank, and some you’ll have to insert your answer.

Before taking the test, please click here to view the “top tips” numerical assessment guide. Remember that you can always access our EY Student Assessment Practice Hub here to practice a number of assessments, including a numerical reasoning assessment, at any time.

The instructions page to the numerical reasoning test contains a link to complete a short practice test. We would strongly recommend that you do this before proceeding to the live test. Please ensure you are ready to complete the live assessment in one sitting as you won’t be able to return once you exit.

You will not fail your application based on this assessment, rather it forms a part of your broader application which we will review once applications close.

      • To make the most of the assessment we recommend that you:
      • Use a computer or laptop, rather than a mobile or smartphone.
      • Set aside some quiet time to complete the task.
      • Have a calculator, pen and paper at hand.
      • Use Internet Explorer or Chrome. Avoid using a Mac as this can cause issues.

Practice as many numerical tests as you can prior to this stage. There’s lots of guidance, tips and examples online. These tests measure speed and accuracy so we’d strongly encourage you to practice.

If you require any adjustments, or do not have access to technology or the right setting to complete the online parts of the process, you can call us on +44(0)800 289 208 between Monday and Friday, 08:30–17:30 UK time, or email our Student Recruitment team and we'll be happy to help.

Once you have completed the application form and all online assessments, you will then be automatically moved to a holding stage whilst we wait for applications to close so we can review all applications together.

Please note that applications are not rolling; as such, we will not review your application until after the closing date. EY-Parthenon Strategy Summer Internship applications will close on Friday 5th January 2024.

    • Stage 3: Interview process

Candidates who are successfully selected for interview will then go through to the first stage of interviews. At this point you will be matched with a mentor from the business who will be on hand to answer questions and offer advice. They will share a prep pack with you which includes some example case studies for you to practise with, as well some top tips for how to prepare for the interviews.

The first round consists of two 25-minute case interviews led by our consultants, and these are conducted back-to-back and CV blind.

If you are successful in the first round, you will be invited to a final interview round which will include two further slightly longer case interviews, a CV-led interview with a member of our senior leadership team and the opportunity to meet with your mentor.

After the final round of interviews, the recruiting team reconvenes to extend offers to successful candidates.

Unsuccessful candidates (both at first and final round stage) will be given the option to receive tailored feedback from one of their interviewers to help guide them in future applications.

    • Stage 4: Offers and Start Dates

Summer Associate Consultants will join for the Summer Internship Programme which runs for 8 weeks through July and August 2024, looking to join full-time in September 2025 if they successfully receive an offer. Please note the dates are not flexible.

Diverse viewpoints combined with teaming and leading inclusively are the catalysts that lead to better questions and better answers. That’s when creative ideas flow, igniting innovation and inspiring more effective solutions.
