The manufacturing industry is going through significant transition both globally and even locally. The Covid-19 pandemic, logistics challenges, sustainability considerations, trade tensions, conflict, inflation, and commodity shortages are forcing manufacturers to rethink their strategies and supply chains. Simultaneously, digital innovation is changing how products are designed, fabricated, and serviced, while also transforming the operations and processes of factories and supply chains.

EY Malta, in collaboration with the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry, has conducted a survey with key manufacturing leaders in Malta to assess the current landscape and outline the way forward. These results will be shared during the event - Industry Focus Series: Manufacturing - along with insights from key sector experts and a panel discussion further analysing the results.

The event kicks-off with some thoughts from the President of the Malta Chamber, Marisa Xuereb, after which the survey results will be presented by EY’s Tax Partner Chris Naudi and Strategy and Transactions Director Simon Barberi.

These findings will be analysed by a panel that includes: Fersun Akyuz, General Manager of CMA CGM; Brian Muscat, General Manager of Multi Packaging Limited; Martin Hignett, Managing Director of Trelleborg Sealing Solutions Malta; and Chris Balzan, Associate Partner, Assurance at EY. The panel will be moderated by Ediana Guillaumier, People Advisory Services and EY Connect Learning Lead.

George Panagiotopoulos, Associate Partner, Consulting, Supply Chain & Operations, EY Greece, will provide a keynote on accelerating manufacturing operational performance and supply-chain planning through digital transformation. The event will end with a few words from Dr Ing. Anton Bartolo from University of Malta and Dr Marthese Portelli, CEO of The Malta Chamber and networking for attendees.

EY Malta’s Tax Partner, Chris Naudi, said: “The manufacturing sector is a cornerstone of Malta’s vibrant economy, providing stable jobs and helping us to reach far beyond our shores. We work closely with many of the manufacturing leaders and listen to their thoughts and aspirations for the sector frequently. Therefore we decided to bring their views together and analyse them to ensure the sector really is on the right track. Global events are challenging most industries but there are undoubtedly opportunities in the short and long-term which would be of benefit for the entire country.”

Marisa Xuereb, President of The Malta Chamber, said: “When the whole of Europe is trying to restore manufacturing activity, we need to support our manufacturing industry as best as we can to remain competitive and cope with the challenges ahead. We need to be mindful that issues such as rising energy costs are not only a result of the war in Ukraine but also due to the EU’s energy transition, which will have significant impact on the manufacturing industry that needs to be mitigated.”

Industry Focus Series: Manufacturing takes place on 7 April at The Malta Chamber in Valletta from 8:30am – 10:30am. Attendance is free of charge for all those who register: Industry Focus Series: Manufacturing
