India’s ‘Man of Steel’

Being at the helm of a multi-billion-dollar conglomerate and remaining grounded while dreaming big takes nerves of steel. Famously known as the ‘Man of Steel’, the second-generation entrepreneur and accomplished business leader, Sajjan Jindal is Chairman of JSW Group, which has led India’s steel sector into a new era.

In 1984, after completing his education, Sajjan Jindal led charge of a new steel mill in Mumbai and made it operational in under two years. This inspired him to take on a bigger challenge, to build a large-scale integrated steel plant, JSW’s Vijayanagar Works in Karnataka. Today it is the largest steel plant in the country. Sajjan Jindal’s passion and drive are reflected in the company’s financial growth. JSW Steel grew 83% y-o-y in FY22 to register revenues of INR146,371 crores. Alongside, JSW Energy, grew 18% to clock revenues of INR8,167 crore.

Under Sajjan Jindal’s visionary leadership, JSW Group, is taking a leap into the future to align with Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” and National Vision of 300 MTPA steel-making capacity. He plans to expand his Vijayanagar plant capacity from 12MTPA to 24 MTPA which would make it the largest single location steel plant in the world. JSW is a front runner in producing “Green Steel” using Hydrogen as a fuel instead of coal.

The JSW Foundation has empowered rural communities for three decades through education, health, skill development, and promotion of art and heritage. Sajjan Jindal’s passion for sports led him to create one of the finest Olympic sports training institutes, Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) in Vijayanagar which currently trains some of India’s best Olympians. With visionaries like Sajjan Jindal, the idea of a new future for India appears clearly possible.
