I am Vinit Mishra, Partner, Technology Consulting, with EY India. Welcome to another exciting episode of EY.ai Unplugged series. Today's discussion centers around Generative AI ole in the Power & Utilities sector.

GenAI is transforming the sector by bringing innovations, optimizing operations, and advancing sustainability. GenAI’s capability to process vast amounts of data is opening new possibilities in the Power & Utilities sector, like energy demand forecasting.

GenAI's model analyzes historical usage data, weather patterns and external variable factors to accurately forecast the energy demand. It helps utilities for better planning of power purchase and improving grid stability.

Another area is predictive maintenance. By analyzing real-time data from sensors and IoT devices, GenAI identifies potential failure of assets in advance. This helps utilities to maintain those assets well before break down, reducing downtime and optimizing their operational and maintenance expenses.

Another area is smart grid optimization. GenAI plays a key role in optimizing smart grid by managing distributed energy resources — solar, wind, battery storage — more efficiently. It can simulate grid performance under various scenarios, ensure better uses of distributed energy resources and integration of renewable energy smoothly.
