Areas of focus

Christopher is a Partner with EY Kenya LLP. He leads the EY East Africa team specialising in M&A and cross-border Tax advisory, as well as EY Law advisory services. He also leads EY East Africa Financial Sector tax services.

He was previously an Associate Director with Viva Africa Consulting, a legal financial tax consulting firm, focusing on East Africa M&A, structuring and cross-border investment tax advisory.

Based out of EY Nairobi office, Christopher has 23 years of law and tax advisory experience and has developed extensive experience in all areas of business laws and taxation. He also has two and half years of financial audit experience. With a LLB from the University of London, BA in Arts (Economics) and MBA in Finance from the University of Nairobi, as well as CPA (Kenya), Christopher is well-rounded and able to provide all round robust business advice.

Christopher serves multi-national corporates, private equity, venture capitalists, and infrastructure funds in diversified sectors and countries in Eastern Africa, including Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Eritrea, Sudan, and Djibouti. He specialises in investment M&A advisory, deal generation, legal and operations tax structuring, due diligence reviews, financial model reviews, negotiation support, and review of legal documentation. He is part of the team that won the East African Venture Capital Association’s Financial Advisor of the Year 2019.

He assists clients in resolving tax disputes and has won several market precedent-setting tax disputes, such as in the financial services sector and in the application of Double Tax Agreements in Kenya.

He supports the advocacy and development of Kenyan tax laws. He leads the EY team in submissions and engages with Parliament, Treasury, and KRA on Budget/Fiscal law changes and tax administration improvements.

He contributes regularly towards tax education by publishing tax thought leadership media material as well as conducting training sessions.
