Taking forward a legacy in engineering excellence

Mr. Vir S. Advani, a third-generation entrepreneur and alumnus of the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard Business School, has taken the more than 80-year-old company into a new era of strategic growth and diversification.

Soon after joining Blue Star Infotech, he set up Blue Star Design and Engineering in 2003.

While profit improvement and strengthening electromechanical projects were among his early achievements, over the years, Mr. Advani has consistently diversified with a focus on innovation. Blue Star’s portfolio now includes electro-mechanical projects and commercial air conditioning, unitary products and the professional electronics and industrial category. It also dominates the ducted systems (~50%) and scroll chillers (45%) segments.

With a deep understanding of emerging market demand along with engineering and cooling solutions industry, he has focused on strengthening product portfolio through R&D and expanding the chiller portfolio for growing markets like data centers while also expanding the company’s strong manufacturing base across seven facilities in India.

The multiple capacity expansion initiatives reflect in the company's strong financial performance. In 2008, Blue Star expanded into electrical contracting, evolving into a comprehensive MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) solutions provider — a strategic diversification that laid the foundation for integrated services and accelerated the company’s growth.

Mr. Singh feels that sustainable growth and innovation are social imperatives. This drives his support to initiatives in STEM education, apprenticeship schemes, use of renewable energy and water management. From engineering heritage to future-ready solutions, Mr. Vir S. Advani continues to expand service capabilities and strengthen technological depth.
