EY New Economy Unit: research and insights for a regenerative economy

The NEU defines a new economy as one that has human and planetary flourishing as its inextricably linked goals — and it produces research to help move thinking and action toward that future. The work explores the forces shaping today’s polycrisis and the principles, initiatives and actors that can help accelerate the transition.

The scale of the challenge is beyond the remit of a single company or actor and likely requires a collective effort to address. The goal is to engage, share ideas and co-create with others conducting research in this space, as well as with anyone interested in bringing about a more equitable and liveable future.

The NEU works toward this goal by leveraging the knowledge of the external NEU Advisory Council, comprised of luminaries from diverse disciplines and backgrounds.

Transitioning to the new economy

The NEU produces unique research pieces centered around the transition to a more sustainable future. While this transition will likely be disruptive and require long-term collaborative effort, the teams believe it is likely inevitable — in response to escalating crises and volatility in socioeconomic and Earth systems — and, in many places, already underway. Reimagining the economy and business of tomorrow benefits from an understanding and honest, collective acceptance of the faults in the economy and business of today. EY professionals hope that this evidence-based work and open invitation to all, to suspend judgment and reflect on challenging questions, can help mainstream the concepts and accelerate the adoption of regenerative solutions.
