EU aiming to launch the Entry and Exit System (EES) on 10 November 2024

The EU Commissioner Ylva Johansson announced during her speech on 16 August 2024 that the EU is aiming to launch the Entry and Exit System (EES) on 10 November 2024. The EES was initially set to be introduced in October 2022, but its launch was delayed due to IT issues and concerns about border controls. The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS), another IT system designed to mitigate irregular migration to the Schengen Area, is set to be introduced after the EES. It will apply to most non-EU nationals who are visa exempt and require them to complete an online registration form prior to travel. At the time of publication, the ETIAS is expected to go live in mid-2025.
