Finland closes more border crossing points with Russia; one crossing point remains open

Effective 24 November 2023, Finland closed the crossing points of Kuusamo, Salla and Vartius along its eastern border with Russia. This development comes four days after Finland closed four other border crossing points. Individuals seeking to enter Finland from Russia can currently use only the crossing point of Raja-Jooseppi. On 22 November 2023, the government decided to close the crossing points of Kuusamo, Salla and Vartius until 23 December 2023. Currently, only the Raja-Jooseppi crossing point remains open to individuals entering from Russia, including Finnish citizens and non-Russian citizens, and to commercial traffic. Individuals who seek to apply for international protection may do so only at Raja-Jooseppi until other border crossing points are reopened.
