The Central Government has notified the final Central Rules under all four Labour Codes on 8 May 2026, marking a key step towards implementation of India’s labour law reforms.
The Rules primarily focus on operational aspects of compliance, including working hours, contract labour, workplace governance and employee documentation. A few points to note:
- The Rules are immediately applicable to establishments where the Central Government is the appropriate authority
- They provide greater clarity on compliance and processes, as organisations move towards implementation
- Notably, specific wage-related clarifications proposed earlier have not been retained, which may require a fresh review of positions
With State Rules still awaited, employers may assess applicability, identify compliance gaps and prepare for phased implementation, while closely monitoring State-level developments that may affect multi-jurisdictional operations.
We have attached a brief alert summarizing the key aspects.
Please feel free to reach out if you would like to discuss implications for your organisation
