India Healthcare Sector Records Strong FY26 Growth; Expansion and Capacity Build-Out Drive Momentum: EY-Parthenon Report

Mumbai, 22 July 2026: India’s healthcare sector delivered robust growth in Q4FY26 and FY26, underpinned by strong revenue expansion across hospitals and diagnostics, sustained capacity additions, and continued investor interest, according to EY-Parthenon Healthcare Sector Update. Growth was driven by rising patient volumes, improving realizations, and a gradual shift toward higher-acuity treatments.

The hospital segment remained the primary growth engine. Revenue and EBITDA growth across major hospital operators was >15% year-on-year. Hospitals’ operational performance was supported by stable occupancy levels, typically ranging between about 60% and 75%, alongside improvements in average revenue per occupied bed (ARPOBS). High-acuity specialties such as cardiology and oncology continued to grow strongly, with growth rates exceeding 15% in certain cases, thereby contributing a larger share to total revenues.

Kaivaan Movdawalla, National Healthcare Leader, EY-Parthenon India, said, “We are witnessing a structural shift in the sector, with players increasingly focusing on disciplined expansion through brownfield and greenfield projects, strategic partnerships, and selective acquisitions. Coupled with strong investor interest and a robust pipeline of public market activity, the healthcare sector remains well-positioned for sustained growth in the coming year.”

Adding to it, Amit Gupta, Partner – Healthcare and Life Sciences Investment Banking, EY India said, “Deal activity in healthcare remains buoyant. The trend of PE-backed strategic buyouts in the hospital segment has strengthened over FY26, as investors look to build regional clusters. In diagnostics, capital deployment is increasingly directed toward integrated segment, digital infrastructure and entry into emerging markets. As sector consolidation accelerates and balance sheets improve, transaction momentum is expected to sustain through FY27.”

Diagnostics

Revenue growth across organised companies demonstrated 15%+ growth with average EBITDA margins being >25%. Companies expanded their footprint aggressively through additional laboratories, radiology centres, and collection points across multiple geographies.

Single Specialty Hospitals and Medical Devices

Single specialty hospital players also demonstrated health revenue growth of >15% with EBITDA margins of around 30%. Comparatively, medical device companies reported muted growth, partly impacted by the US tariffs. Profitability was impacted by raw material cost inflation, global logistical disruptions, and integration costs related to acquisitions and capacity expansion.

Investment Activity and Deal Landscape

The healthcare sector continued to attract strong interest from private equity investors, despite a sequential decline in deal volumes in Q4FY26. Valuation trends remain robust, reflecting investor confidence in the sector’s long-term growth potential. Valuations have demonstrated northward momentum indicating premium valuations for high-growth platforms.

The outlook for the healthcare sector remains positive:

  • Continued demand growth driven by rising healthcare awareness and increasing chronic disease burden
  • Ongoing capacity expansion across hospitals and diagnostics networks
  • Strong pipeline of public market activity and capital inflows
  • Strategic consolidation through mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships
