Junior athletes given the chance to train with an Olympian ahead of the EY Easter Running Festival

Junior athletes in Guernsey are being given the opportunity to be trained by Olympian, Steph Twell, on the eve of this year’s EY Easter Running Festival.

Press Contact

To support the EY Easter Running Festival, Steph will be leading the U13 training session on Thursday, 17 April from 5.30pm-6pm, as well as a Junior Endurance session from 6pm – 6.40pm. She will also be leading the warm-up for the relay race as part of the EY Easter Running Festival at 9.45am on Sunday, 20 April.

Ove Svejstrup, EY Partner and a long-term participant in the EY Easter Running Festival, said: “Watching Steph take part in the festival over the years, and for runners having the opportunity to race against her, is always such an amazing experience. We’re delighted to see her lead with these training sessions and give our future athletes an invaluable coaching experience they will remember for years to come.

“And if anyone is still thinking of signing up to this year’s relay race, what better incentive than to have the chance to be coached by an Olympian moments before you take part! Make sure you don’t miss what promises to be a fantastic event.”

Chris Gillman, Endurance Director at Guernsey Athletics Club, concluded:

"At Guernsey Athletics, we strive to put on events that are accessible to all and that showcase our wonderful island. The EY Easter Running Festival is perhaps the best example of that. The junior and senior festivals are set up to complement each other, and this allows us to accommodate athletes of all ages. The team aspect offers something a little different, whether you're a family of four or a visiting club. We welcome athletes of all abilities, from newcomers to Olympians!

“Of course, Guernsey's unique landscape is the backdrop for all of our races, and this gives visiting and local athletes an opportunity to run in places they've never tried before. We trust that this year will be another festival to remember!"

Registrations for both the junior and senior EY Easter Running Festival are still open, with online registration closing at 5pm on Sunday, 13 April. You can sign up for any of the festival’s races here: https://my.raceresult.com/318719/registration
