Areas of focus

As the Asia-Pacific Tax Policy Leader, Matt is responsible for the responses to the global tax policy changes in Asia-Pacific. This includes coordinating and communicating jurisdictional tax policy changes across the region so multinational corporations are aware of them as well as developing tax-related thought leadership. Matt is working to deepen governmental relationships forged during his time at the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and his previous 14 years at EY by holding regular discussions with Asia-Pacific tax authorities and tax policymakers.

During his time at the OECD, Matt was the Head of the Tax Treaty, Transfer Pricing and Financial Transactions Division. He played a key leadership role in the development of the tax response to the digital economy, specifically Pillar 1.

Matt received his Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from Waikato University and his Masters of Science (Taxation) from Oxford University.

How Matt is building a better working world

Matt believes it is important to help individuals grow in confidence and experience through providing important training and work/project opportunities. This includes working in multidisciplinary teams, across geographies and cultures, to solve complex tax issues. Additionally, Matt thinks that creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all people fosters growth and allows them to reach their potential.
