Overview

Covering a broad spectrum of VAT related topics, this 8-session course is a unique opportunity to obtain a very good theoretical and practical understanding of the main VAT concepts. It also applies to more experienced learners who have been working in the VAT sphere for a number of months/years and/or may need to brush up their technical knowledge in an intensive manner or fill in certain gaps and clarify issues that there might be relating to certain transactions. 

Who Should Attend?

This course is ideal both for newcomers in the Maltese VAT sphere as well as Accounting Staff, Clerical Staff, Accounting Professionals, Accounting Students, Sole Proprietors and Business Owners.

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements apart from a basic understanding of English Language.

Mode of attendance

This 50 hours part-time course will be delivered face-to-face at the EY Connect Centre located at EY Regional Business Center, Achille Ferris Street, Msida MSD1751. The course will be structured as following:

  • 7 trainer-led sessions of 3 hours each and one final session of 4 hours including a 2-hour tutorial (total contact hours: 25 hours).
  • 23 hours of self-study would be required.
  • 2 hours exam.

Award and ECTS accreditation

This course will include a 2-hour written exam which will take place at EY Connect Centre. Guidelines will be sent to learners at registration stage and prior to examination sitting.

The assessment structure and weighting will be as follows:

  • 1 computational question (40%)
  • 1 essay question (30%)
  • a set of 10 multiple choice questions (15%)
  • a set of 5 short questions (15%)

An Award in VAT (EQF/MQF 6) will be issued to participants who attended all classes and obtain a pass mark (50%) in the final assessment. EY Connect Learning is licensed as a Higher Education Institution by the MFHEA (Licence number: 2011-011) and 2 ECTS will be accredited upon the successful completion of the above mentioned examination.

Saviour is a warranted Accountant with over 10 years working in taxation, specifically on VAT. Saviour joined EY in 2006 and over the years has provided VAT consultancy services to a range of local and international clients.


Kurt Cuschieri | EY Manager

Kurt is a Manager within EY Malta’s Tax Department. Kurt is a certified public accountant and joined EY Malta in 2013 after obtaining the Bachelor of Accountancy (Hons.) from the University of Malta. During his time at EY, he has worked in various sub-service lines within the Tax Department. Kurt is currently involved in providing Tax Advisory Services to both local and multinational clients operating in various sectors on a number of matters including setting up of operations in Malta, cross border transactions and impact arising from tax legislation changes.
