Effective Communication for Team Leaders (Session 1)

Communication is ranked at the top of the ten most desired Business Skills list. Effective communication is about developing new and strengthening existing skills as well as implementing techniques that enable an individual to convey messages and information in an efficient and effective manner.  

Key learning outcomes:

  • Recognise the communication process and importance of communication
  • Outline the types of communication
  • Describe the communication Funnel model
  • Recognise and manage communication barriers
  • Distinguish between the various communication cues
  • Implement effective communication through non-verbal cues

Leading with Empathy (Session 2)

Empathy’s core concept is putting ourselves into the other person’s shoes; it enables us reach people at a deeper level and allowing them to open up to us. Building empathy is core in both understanding and managing the people around us whilst also assisting in service concept and business model designs that truly cater to our audience.

Key learning outcomes:

  • Define Empathy in the workplace
  • Describe the types of empathy
  • Understand the mechanics of empathy
  • Differentiate between feelings, needs, thoughts, and demands
  • Identify negative impact of everyday judgments in the workplace
  • Model ways to increase empathy in the workplace

Ediana Guillaumier | Senior Manager | People Consulting Leader | EY Malta

Ediana Guillaumier leads People Consulting and Learning for EY Malta, a client-service offering that was incubated during her tenure as part of this role. After successfully setting up the learning and workforce advisory practice, Ediana started focusing on training needs assessments, skills gap analysis, development of Competency Frameworks, and People Analytics (employee engagement, benchmarking etc), amongst other talent management services. As part of this role, Ediana has coordinated and project managed learning programmes, mobilising teams, resources and content, for the efficient delivery of high-quality courses, training and workshops for small and large organisations. She has seamlessly transferred the offering to a virtual setting and successfully led a team to obtain the Education Institution Licence for EY.

Ediana sits on the Board of the Malta Federation of Human Resource Development (FHRD), the Committee of Women Directors in Malta (WDM), and is an Ambassador for E-Skills Malta Foundation. In addition, Ediana is a Certified Public Accountant, a Member of the Malta Institute of Accountants and a Certified Facilitator/Trainer for EY.

Mario Galea | Manager | People Consulting | EY Malta

Mario Galea is a Manager within the People Consultancy team at EY. As part of his role, he helps clients in a wide array of people matters to support in their business strategy, including change management, learning and development, talent and performance management. Mario also assists clients in identifying competency gaps through skills gaps analysis with the aim of adopting a strategic approach to their workforce development. He has also assisted a number of clients to benchmark their competency requirements against industry standards to identify further competency gaps. Mario has also delivered training sessions related to various people skills, including effective communication and empathy at the workplace.
