On 24 January 2024, the Finnish government announced that it will extend residence permits issued on the basis of temporary protection to individuals fleeing the armed conflict in Ukraine until 4 March 2025. The Finnish authorities will send letters (and text messages where a phone number has been provided) to impacted individuals between 9 February 2024 and 16 February 2024 confirming that their permits have been automatically extended. These individuals are not required to file applications to extend their permits. However, the Finnish authorities recommend that impacted individuals apply to obtain a new residence permit card starting on 17 February 2024 via the Finnish Immigration Service's online portal.
