On 15 May 2024, Ireland's Minister for Justice and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment confirmed the introduction of a new single permit that will allow holders to work and reside in Ireland without obtaining separate work and residence permits. The single permit scheme is expected to be implemented over the course of the next three years. A program management team will be established, which will include members of the Department of Justice and the DETE. The team will work on implementing the single permit scheme, including developing a new application platform.
