On 9 October 2023, Ireland's Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) announced that individuals who hold Irish Residence Permits (IRPs) that will expire during or soon after the Christmas period should submit renewal applications before 31 October 2023 to allow sufficient time for processing in advance of travel to and from Ireland during the Christmas holiday period. The ISD is currently handling a large volume of IRP renewal applications. While IRP holders who are legally resident in Ireland may submit renewal applications up to 12 weeks before the date of their permits' expiry, the ISD stated that those who submit renewal applications after 31 October 2023 may not receive a new IRP Card before Christmas, which may impact their travel.
