On 10 April 2024, the Swedish government proposed that certain individuals residing in Sweden pursuant to the EU Temporary Protection Directive (TPD) be able to register with the Swedish Population Registry and receive additional health and other benefits. The proposal, if passed, will become effective on 1 November 2024 and Ukrainian nationals who have held a Swedish residence permit for at least 12 months and who reside in Sweden for at least another six months will be able to register in the Swedish Population Registry. The population registration guarantees its holders expanded access to health and medical care, as well as dental care and other social security benefits (including parental benefits). Further details (including what will happen after 4 March 2025 when the TPD is set to expire) are expected to be released in the near future.
