US requirements for national interest exemptions for certain travelers from Schengen Area, United Kingdom, and Ireland d

The US Department of State issued updated requirements on March 2, to apply for a national interest exemption (NIE) under President Biden's January 25 Proclamation on The Suspension of Entry as Immigrants and Non-Immigrants of Certain Additional Persons Who Pose a Risk of Transmitting Coronavirus Disease. Originally issued on January 25, the Proclamation limits entry to the United States by persons who have been in the Schengen area, United Kingdom, Ireland, Brazil and South Africa during the 14-day period prior to entering the United States. On March 2, the Secretary of State removed national interest exceptions carved out for certain technical experts and specialists, senior-level managers and executives, treaty-traders and investors, professional athletes, and their dependents, who were seeking admission to the U.S. from the above mentioned countries.
