In the words of our judges

“Dr. Sohail Masood is an impressive Pakistani serial entrepreneur who is filling a critical health care need while delivering cost savings, time efficiencies and outstanding financial performance.”

Serial founder

Most teenagers on the cusp of turning 20 are still exploring possible life paths. But 19-year-old Sohail Masood knew exactly where he was going. The year was 1981, and the ambitious young man took himself to the US from Pakistan.

Settling in California, Masood, who lost his father at age 7, supported himself through pharmacy school. He dedicated most of his time to work and his courses at the University of Southern California, graduating with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 1988.

In 1992, married and with a newborn, Masood identified an opportunity to develop and grow the home infusion market for intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), a treatment for chronically ill individuals with neuromuscular diseases. His company, Crescent Healthcare, became one of the largest home infusion providers in California and was acquired by a national pharmacy chain in 2012. Then, in 2002, Masood created MAAS Medical to develop a state-of-the-art infusion pump for home-based patients. He sold the company in 2007 to a major manufacturer of health products.

In 2010, this serial entrepreneur launched KabaFusion, a home infusion company that specializes in IVIG, subcutaneous immunoglobulin and acute home-infusion IV therapies. Today, KabaFusion employs more than 1,500 health care professionals; has 26 home infusion specialty pharmacies across the US; and offers service capabilities, including home nursing support, in more than 40 states.

The pharmacies also offer home nursing support for a wide range of infusion therapies prescribed by physicians specializing in neurology, immunology, oncology, pain management, infectious diseases, cardiology, dermatology and nutrition.

A market leader, KabaFusion has consistently achieved organic growth of 30% to 40% year over year. But Masood defines success in broader terms. “Good companies create good employees,” he said, “and good employees take care of other people.”
