I learn something new each day. At EY, we’re constantly thinking of ways to digitize and transform businesses in innovative ways to bring new value to our clients.
EY Global Vice Chair – Tax
Make a real impact, today
Tax has now become a strategic linchpin for businesses, and that means the role of the tax professional has never been more important – or more rewarding.
At EY, we’re digitizing tax, helping businesses – from ambitious start-ups to global organizations - to seize opportunities in an increasingly digital and borderless world.
You’ll influence what’s next by combining diverse thinking with the power of technology and analytics. You’ll provide strategic, real-time insights and help create value for clients.
Disruption is transforming tax, too
Tax technology used to mean a spreadsheet; now we’re using bots for the number crunching. Innovations such as machine learning, AI and natural language generation are revolutionizing the tax experience.
That means that EY tax professionals get to use a far broader skill set. You’ll have the space to take a step back, see the big picture and identify objectives. You could be solving complex tax issues for clients, building them technology services, transforming their talent organization or solving international tax law issues. You’ll use your analytical skills and subjective judgment to make strategic decisions. By combining your human ingenuity with game-changing technology, you’ll help drive competitive advantage.
The wide world of tax
EY tax teams across the globe help clients understand and manage their tax compliance and reporting obligations responsibly and proactively. We help them assess, improve and monitor their tax function’s processes, controls and risk management and maintain effective relationships with the tax authorities.
EY tax offers leadership in all tax disciplines, including business tax, global compliance and reporting, global law, indirect tax, international tax, transactional tax, and people advisory services.
The flexible EY approach to career development means you can choose to specialize and build your career in any industry, or move between industries and work across tax teams.
You could work on an acquisition of one company by another; apply technology to improve processes and save time on tax return preparation; develop new services to target tax opportunities; transform the human resource organization; or help a company restructure its operations to make the most of tax reform.
Whatever you do in tax, you’ll help to add value, drive decision-making and reduce risk.
People are the center of tax
Of course numbers are important, but not in isolation. Your relationships with colleagues and clients are just as crucial as your technical skills, and you’ll make those better face-to-face than from a desk.
As tax becomes more digital, EY tax professionals spend much more time with clients to develop a deep understanding of their business and industry. Yes, numbers will be an important part of your job as a tax professional, but you’ll also offer insights on market developments and help clients align their global tax position with their overall business strategy.
You’ll work closely with colleagues across borders, using EY tools and networks to solve complex business and tax problems. By combining the power of EY tax experience with innovative technology, you can help us transform the tax function of the future.
Data analytics will change the role of tax from being a historian, as it often is today, to a strategic business partner.

As tax evolves, so will you
As globalization transforms the way businesses operate, tax is changing too. Tax authorities are innovating and sooner or later the traditional tax return will be replaced by real-time reporting.
Governments worldwide are digitizing tax administrations and updating policy for a virtual, borderless business world. Taxpayer information is being collected and shared at a rapid pace. With governments becoming increasingly proficient with big data, taxpayers need to be, too.
At EY you’ll have the tools and support to keep up with new taxes, regulatory change, and new reporting and compliance obligations. You’ll have the knowledge and experience to help companies keep pace and pay the right amount of tax, in the right countries, at the right time.
EY offers a unique opportunity to learn about EY Tax while balancing both the breadth and depth of your experience. On a diversified path, you will have the opportunity to spend a few years in various tax sub-service lines before making an educated choice about which area of tax best aligns with your skills and interests and the business needs.
The benefit for you is a broad base of tax experience and sector awareness that is highly marketable, whether you stay at EY or leave to pursue other opportunities. Along the way, you’ll have built a broad and diverse network of relationships in other areas of tax and with a wide variety of EY leaders and colleagues, as well as clients. These are the kind of relationships that will be beneficial to you throughout your career. There are two diversified paths:
- Our Diversified Staff Group (DSG) model is all about providing our people with the skills, information and knowledge to take on some of the biggest challenges in taxation. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to spend time in a wide range of Tax service areas, covering everything from business, international, state and local, and transactions tax, to global compliance and reporting. Your client base could be a mix of both public and private entities within a variety of industry sectors.
- Our Diversified Law Path for JD and JD/LLM graduates is a part of the DSG, and the sub-service line experiences in this path will complement your legal skillset.
We do hire candidates directly into our niche tax specialty areas. We seek candidates with a specific skill set, and the nature of the day-to-day work means candidates hired into these areas benefit from receiving specialized and focused training and experiences.
Learning and experience requirements are different for each focused path and roles require different types of certifications (for example, HR certification). Examples of focused paths we most commonly recruit for on campus include:
- People Advisory Services
- National Tax Department
- Transaction Tax
- Tax Technology & Transformation Services
- Transfer Pricing
Please see your recruiter for more information on the focused paths in our Tax practice.
