Black and HIspanic/Latino entrepreneurs, critical to US economic growth, to convene for three-day summit of impactful learning and networking

NEW YORK, May 16, 2023 —Ernst & Young LLP (EY US) today announced the Entrepreneurs Access Network (EAN) first-time Spring Summit taking place in person from May 16-18, 2023, in Atlanta, Ga., where, according to the US Census Bureau, close to 20 percent of employer firms are owned by people of color. The event, hosted by EAN, will feature a robust agenda to discuss and collaborate on today’s most pressing business challenges, as Black and Hispanic/Latino entrepreneurs continue scaling their businesses and serve as essential to the country’s growth and economic success.

Despite systemic financial and institutional barriers, Black and Hispanic/Latino entrepreneurs are a major economic force, generating some $700 billion in revenue. Over the past decade, Black- and Hispanic/Latino-led companies started more than 1 million new businesses across the United States, leading to millions of net-new jobs.¹ EAN, a comprehensive 12-month executive program designed to support Black- and Hispanic/Latino-owned innovative companies, will host entrepreneurs from across the country, inviting them to collaborate with other C-suite executives on how to address and navigate today’s challenging business environment. The three-day summit will be held in person at the EY offices in Atlanta.

“Black and Hispanic/Latino entrepreneurs play a critical role in fueling our nation’s economic growth, and with support from institutions and large companies, that impact could be even greater,” said Nit Reeder, EY Entrepreneurs Access Network Program Director. “This summit exemplifies one of the many ways EAN helps Black and Hispanic/Latino entrepreneurs defy longstanding financial and institutional barriers, especially in an uncertain economic environment in which securing capital and growing a company comes with even more challenges. We are excited for entrepreneurs to hear from esteemed guests and subject-matter experts and build 1:1 connections with fellow colleagues who lead high-potential companies as they continue to scale and build financial and operational resiliency.”

Amid uncertain times, entrepreneurs – notably those who are racially and ethnically diverse – have been challenged with navigating long-term economic effects of the pandemic, geopolitical disruption, macroeconomic tumult, persistent inflation and more, in addition to experiencing unique funding challenges. In 2022, for example, Black and Hispanic/Latino founders noticed a marked decline in offers of business collaboration. EAN aims to close long-standing disparity gaps and help scale high-potential companies led by Black and Hispanic/Latino entrepreneurs.

“The EAN-affiliated entrepreneurs of today are the top business leaders of tomorrow, and I am thrilled to support and welcome them to the EY Atlanta office for such an important and impactful summit,” said Glenn Mitchell, Office Managing Partner, EY Atlanta. “Atlanta – vibrant with business, the arts and educational centers – is the perfect place to convene these dynamic leaders for learning and relationship-building to draw on as they scale their businesses and continue making significant societal, economic and cultural contributions.”

The week’s lineup of activities will include engaging sessions; networking opportunities, including a reception with members of the Entrepreneur Of The Year® and EY Entrepreneurial Winning Women™ North America communities; and industry roundtables, informing attendees on topics such as AI and cybersecurity, acquiring and retaining top talent, and securing capital.
