  • Video on Demand Course: Sustainability – Green Taxes Affecting Business – As – Usual The EU Role of Cyprus

    With Cyprus shortly undertaking Presidency of the Council of the EU (January 2026) and identifying high on the agenda sustainability topics, EY Academy of Learning and Development organised a session on Sustainability and Green Taxes: expected impact on businesses worldwide.
    The purpose of this session was to inform businesses on how local and international entities will be affected by EU fiscal levies and compliance requirements as interlinked with ESG and sustainability.
    During the mini-conference, reference was made on the aftermath of COP(28) and the Davos January 2024 Economic Forum. Emphasis given on the neutrality of environmental measures and what are the next steps in relation to Article 6 (Paris Agreement) in particular carbon credits and how Cyprus can benefit from such initiatives.
    In addition to the EU framework under implementation, brief evaluation was carried out on upcoming introduction of local taxes aiming to achieve the objectives of the European Green Deal. Practical considerations were touched inclusive preparation need for further accounting, reporting and advance planning.
