Dr. Gerald Yin

EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year™ Class of 2022, Mainland China
Dr. Gerald Yin, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment Inc. China.

Gerald’s semiconductor firm helps power China’s tech revolution.

World-renowned inventor and tech innovator Dr. Gerald Yin gave up a dazzling career in Silicon Valley to start Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment Inc. China (AMEC). Though 60 years old when he embarked on his entrepreneurial journey, Dr. Yin had little business experience. What he did have were hundreds of patents to his name, a clear vision that China was ready for a technological revolution and confidence that semiconductors would play an instrumental role. Founded in 2004, AMEC is now the largest high-end semiconductor equipment maker in China and a rising star in the sector globally.

Dr. Yin places R&D at the heart of AMEC and constantly pushes to lead technological innovation. His recent subsidiary, AMEC Wisetron, is focused on developing environmental protection equipment and hydrogen fuel cell technology. Breakthrough inventions have been a key ingredient in AMEC’s success, and the company has received two China Patent Gold Awards. The company was one of the first to go public on China’s Star Market and is the first to reach a $15b valuation.

In addition to its mission to reduce carbon consumption, AMEC also runs a Support for Poor Elderly and Children Program and co-organizes “elite classes” with the University of Science and Technology of China to educate China’s next generation of STEM talent.
